With some mods you could extract some more power and shorten the gearing to make it a dedicated dirt bike. KLX is a little taller and has a better suspension. The CRF has a lighter clutch pull, has a fuel and gear indicator and it seems to be geared for more low end power from the factory. Ever since revealing the 250F one of the most asked questions is why I chose it over the CRF300L. It's a simple answer for me but a lot of people get hung up...It felt really top heavy compared to the crf300l I have now. The drz not having a 6th gear is pretty lame too. I'd go with the klx300 over the WR. Id also go with the 300l over the klx ha. Theres a wee bit more torque on the klx over the WR which is always good. The klx seat height is 1.5" or so lower than the WR which you might like.

The rally is cool but has a lot of extra weight and is much more too heavy. If you are doing minimal road travel it doesn't make any sense to get a rally to me. From the few reviews I've read, the rational consensus is to forget the Rally version. Sounds like the regular non-rally 300l is for you.
